How unpredictable do you think life is?

The astronaut Buzz Aldrin is 95 years old.

And he surprised many people in 2023 by marrying, at 93, his 64-year-old wife, Anca Faur. “Good for him,” people must have thought. Or perhaps “oh, that old dog!” I still remember the responders. Most were surprised. Some even mocked the couple.

そして彼は2023年、93歳で64歳の妻アンカ・ファウルと結婚し、多くの人を驚かせました。「よかったね」と思った人もいれば、「あの年寄りめ！」と思った人もいたでしょう。反応を今でも覚えています。ほとんどの人は驚き、一部はこの夫婦をからかいました。

What people didn’t realize, however, is that Anca Faur and Buzz Aldrin had been together for a while, and deeply loved each other. And that she had recently been diagnosed with cancer. The couple kept that part a secret. Anca bravely battled the disease, in private, while Buzz stood by her side every step of the way. Buzz Aldrin’s wife wasn’t some gold digger, either — she was a chemical engineer and highly intelligent, herself.

On October 28, 2025, Anca Faur died at age 66. I never would have expected or predicted for Buzz Aldrin to survive her, as he is already 95. That’s how unpredictable life is. And this is exactly why we must cherish every moment, however brief.
